Camping. Hiking. Backpacking. Who knew you could do all this and keep your electronic devices charged for more than a day? Well Goal Zero makes it possible. They specialize in solar power gear and they make it look cool.
Recently, we filmed a short web video featuring Goal Zero’s “sherpa and switch.” The sherpa and switch are both portable batteries. The Switch charges usb devices and can be plugged in to a wall unit, one of Goal Zero’s solar panels or via usb plug. The sherpa is a larger portable battery that can be charged by plugging it in or solar power. Luckily, I got to tag along on this shoot and experience the ins and outs of video production first hand.
Although the web video was short, our day was quite the opposite. We started in Salt Lake City at 9 a.m. and made our way to our first location at the Salt Lake City Airport. At first, there were a lot of people around, most of which were curious about our project. However, once the area cleared out we enlisted the help of everyone in the crew to play extras. You can even see most of us walking by in the videos–which are soon to come.

Next, we left the air conditioned airport for a tiny coffee shop in downtown SLC. It was quaint and cute, but with the summer heat and all those bodies inside, I was ready to go back to the airport– or to a pool.

We moved on to our third location of the day to a beautiful home in Cottonwood Heights. We took advantage of the comfortable couches and air conditioning here. We were happy campers as you can see from our film crew below.

Our last location took us on a drive up Little Cottonwood Canyon around 6 p.m. The scenery was beautiful. We got there just in time to have enough light to film and also enjoy the picturesque sunset.

Then, around 9 p.m. we finally decided to call it a day. Between the heat, the driving, and all the acting, we were worn out. We packed up our stuff and went home. You can bet we slept well that night.
Although long, we were able to get some great footage that tells all about the sherpa and switch. Once we finish it, we’ll post it for you to see. Be on the lookout for our up and coming Goal Zero video!
